Cinema for Peace 2010 #SEOsForCharity

Cinema for Peace LogoThe Cinema for Peace Gala at the Konzerthaus in Berlin last night has been really amazing! If you follow my blog you probably know, that I´m on the Supervisory Board of the Cinema for Peace Foundation, and Co-Chair of the Cinema for Peace Gala, which took place for the 9th time yesterday.

I truly believe in Cinema for Peace – not only because I´m a total addict of the silver screen, I also love that Cinema for Peace gives a chance to movies, that may not be big blockbusters, but can truly change your view on a specific topic! I think that movies in peticular have the power to raise awareness on almost every topic -> you can for example read something about genocide in Burma, or maybe check out some photos, but only a good documentary or story told with a movie will really open your eyes! There´s no better medium to deliver emotions then the cinema!

I wanna point out one movie in peticular, which won an award last night -> As We Forgive, about the genocide in Rwanda – a movie which is just painful to watch, but so powerful, you just take your eyes off it!

And then there´s the financial aspect – the past Gala´s raised well over 3 Million Euros (!) for various Charities. I don´t know yet, how much money got raised this year, but I truly hope we beat the 400.000 Euros we raised with last years Gala!

Here are some pictures from last night ->

This picture of Leo and me was actually taken by one of the most famous photographers in the world – Michael Comte, and I didn´t even smile :-)

It´s quite a funny story -> I had quite a bit of wine already, when I got up the stage and shook Leo´s hand. I wanted a picture with him, and just gave the camera to the closest guy standing there -> Michael Comte! So a guy, who normally charges probably well over 100.000 dollars for a photo, just took a quick snapshot of me and Leo, and I look like a total douchebag LOL :-)

Wladimir Klitschko didn´t really want to fight me (good for him :-) …) – and no, I´m not just Napoleon´esque small, he´s also really tall :-)

There´s great pictures of the event all around the internet, but the best can be found over at GALA

Every major newspaper wrote about the Gala, so it would be hard linking to all the articles, but I would like to point out the great (german) write-up over at Zeit.de.

It´s really been an amazing event – I had some great conversations with great people (like Nick Út, the photographer for AP, who actually took one of the most famous pictures of all time -> the “Napalm Girl“, which changed the view of the americans towards the vietnam war!) – I can´t wait for next year!

Speaking at SES New York

Hear me speak at SES New YorkI finally got my confirmation for being a speaker at SES New York in march! The SearchEngineStrategies conference in New York is still my No.1 must-go-to-conference -> if you are a savvy online-marketer you just have to be at SES New York! Over 6.000 (!) online-marketers from all over the world travel to the big apple every year, to participate in the world´s largest conference focusing on search! And – well, it´s New York, so there´re always loads of great dinners and parties – New York is just one of the best locations for a conference period!

Since we got SMX in my hometown munich almost at the same time, I can only be at SES New York for the last day, which pretty much sucks, but even with only one day left, I still wouldn´t wanna miss it in the world (well, there´s a lof of stuff to do besides talking about search in New York :-) …).

I´m glad Stewart and the SES crew found a spot for me in their Day 3 agenda – I´ll be speaking on “Advanced Keyword Research“, and will cover the keyword research for SEO part, which is a bit different (and my opinion a bit harder) then keyword research, when you´re just focusing on PPC. I will try to illustrate my research process, when starting up a new project.

I hope to see you guys in New York!

One Team to Rule them All

Niels DörjeMost of you guys probably already heard it -> as of today me and my good friend Niels Dörje are joining forces, and will be consulting companies together as a team -> Tandler Doerje Partner

If you don´t know Niels, you´ve been probably hiding under a rock the last couple of years :-)
Niels just quit at Google, where he worked for the last 4 years. He was Strategic Partner Development Manager Media & Publishing and Content for the EMEA region, which is a pretty long job-title, but basically means, that he was responsible for most of the Universal Search stuff going on at Google for quite a lot of countries.

Before that he was Managing Director International for Affilinet, Business Development Manager International & Search Guru at Scout24, and just before that he was the International Marketing Director at MediaMarkt & Saturn. Pretty long resumée & quite impressive what this guy had to go through before settling with me to do kick-ass search consulting :-)

I´m extremly happy to have finally dragged him to the other side of the table, especially since he´s the perfect fit for my business! I´ve been consulting SEO and SMO, but always had to pass, when it came to the universal search aspects of the game. But Google News for example has been totally taking off, and is still leaving a lot question marks in the faces of most the publishing pundits – so Niels is the perfect addition, and will provide excellent advice for all Universal Search aspects as well as Licencing & Syndication of content.

I really couldn´t be happier! I´m so proud to be finally united again with the guy, who dragged me to Scout24 back in the days (which definetly kickstarted my SEO career)… Welcome to the Force kid :-)
